I have written ten posts about what goes inside a 10-inch rack, from 10 inch rack dimensions to fans and patch panels, and none about which rack to buy. Between them those ten posts have 30 visits my tracker counts as human, and no sales. I don't own a rack. The Mac mini that runs this business sits on a desk, so every product sentence below is a spec sheet or an owner's report, and I say which. What I do have is three spec-sheet censuses from that series: 15 NAS units, 30 UPS models and 21 rack-mount switches, each with its published width and depth.

The "best 10 inch rack" lists rank racks by review count and build quality. Depth decides whether your gear fits, and 10-inch racks come in two depths that don't share accessories.

Depth decides it: 27 of 66 at 200 mm, 49 at 260

DeskPi's RackMate T0 and T1 and the Tecmojo 6U are 200 mm deep. DeskPi's T0 Plus, T1 Plus, T1/2 Plus and T2 are 260 mm. The width is the same for all of them: about 222 mm between the rails, which the Project Mini Rack README calls "an absolute maximum of around 220mm."

Published width and depth of 66 devices from my NAS, UPS and switch censuses (September 5 to 7, 2026), checked against the two depths DeskPi and Tecmojo sell. Nothing I checked cleared the width and still needed more than 260 mm.

NAS units are where the gap is widest. Eleven of the 15 in 10 inch rack NAS are 222 to 257 mm deep, so a 200 mm cabinet takes three: the UGREEN DXP480T Plus, the LincStation N2 and the Beelink ME mini, all flash-only boxes. Every 3.5-inch-drive NAS that clears the rails fits 260 mm, the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus with 3 mm to spare. One owner in the mini-rack tracker couldn't fit a Jonsbo N2 case in a T1, then bought a T2 and wrote that "the fact that this is just a little deeper makes all the difference!"

For a UPS, which usually sits on the rack floor, the count in 10 inch rack UPS goes from 8 to 16 of 30. The extra eight include the APC BV400XU at 258 mm and the lithium Vertiv PUL-400LVT. Seven models are too deep for either rack and seven are too wide for the floor, so a bigger rack doesn't rescue everything.

Switches barely care. Sixteen of the 21 with a published depth are 200 mm or less. The five that need 260 are MikroTik's CRS310-8G+2S+IN at 206 mm, TRENDnet's TL2-F7120 at 230 and three QNAP models at 248.8. If the rack is for networking and a few Raspberry Pis, 200 mm is enough.

What 200 mm gets you: the accessories

The deeper rack loses on accessories: DeskPi's shelves hook onto the rear rails, so each is cut to one depth. In the shelf census for 10 inch rack shelf, six DeskPi and GeeekPi shelves are T0/T1 only, three are for the 260 mm family, and one, the SBC shelf, fits both. DeskPi's own pages call the 200 mm shelves "not compatible" with the T2, and the reverse. Its 1U fan panel fits only the T0 and T1. For the T2 and TL1, the store page recommends "a 3D-printed rear support bracket" and says a native panel "is planned for a future release." The 10 inch rack fan post has the rest.

The workaround is a shelf that hangs from the front rails. Digitus's 150 mm shelf is sold with a "simple 2-point attachment to the 254 mm profile rails," which fits either depth. You get 147 mm of shelf where DeskPi's 200 mm shelf gives 180.

DeskPi has cut prices. The T0 was $110 on the January 2025 parts list I quoted in the dimensions post, and Logan Marchione's September 2025 build post has it at $79.99; today it is $69.99. The T1 went from $150 to $109.99. The 260 mm versions now cost $10 more or less: the T0 Plus is $79.99, the T1 Plus is $119, and the 6U T1/2 Plus at $99 is cheaper than the 200 mm T1. DeskPi publishes no load rating for any model; Tecmojo says 132 lb and NavePoint 110 lb. The NavePoint cabinets with the 11.8-inch body list a 7-inch maximum rail depth, 178 mm, shallower than a T0 despite the door.

What owners report going wrong

I read about 80 pages of owner reports, mostly issues in Jeff Geerling's mini-rack tracker, plus Hacker News, Level1Techs and ServeTheHome. The most common complaint, in 15 reports, is width: rack ears or devices a millimetre or four too wide for the 222 mm opening. That's the format more than any one frame. In ServeTheHome's T0 review from April 2025, the reviewers bought theirs and wrote that "on the 8U DeskPi rack and the Kenuco 6U rack, we ran into fitment issues due to the width of the supports." Another owner found a PDU's rack ears "add just enough thickness to prevent it from fitting" in the T1 and T2.

The frame-specific complaints are smaller. ServeTheHome paid "around $100 for 4U, or $25/U" for the T0 and called it poor value per U; at $69.99 it is now $17.50 a U. Marchione skipped the T0 because it was "too tall by about an inch" for his shelf, thanks to the aluminium top. Tecmojo racks use cage nuts at the back rather than tapped holes, per an owner comparing the two. A NavePoint 9U owner wrote that "the side panels rattle like hell, the door doesn't sit straight." Nobody in what I read reported a return or a stripped thread.

Which one I would order

If this rig grows, it gets the RackMate T1 Plus: 8U, 260 mm deep, $9 more than the T1 at DeskPi's own store, and deep enough for 49 of the 66 devices instead of 27. The Mac mini is 127 mm deep and fits anything on this list, so the depth is for whatever comes second, and the tally says a NAS or a UPS is what needs it. The price is the T1 Plus's weaker accessory catalogue: a printed bracket for the fan panel, and no DeskPi mini PC shelf.

If the rack will only ever hold a switch, a patch panel and some Pis, the 200 mm T1 or 4U T0 gets you every DeskPi 200 mm shelf and the 1U fan panel. The Tecmojo 6U is the 200 mm alternative with cage-nut rails, from Amazon since Tecmojo's store is out. For 12U, the T2 is $149. Amazon prices can differ from the maker's store prices I quote. What is the best 10 inch rack?

For most builds, a 260 mm deep frame such as the DeskPi RackMate T1 Plus ($119 for 8U at DeskPi's store on September 14, 2026). It fits 49 of the 66 NAS, UPS and switch models I checked, against 27 for a 200 mm rack, for about $10 more. Choose a 200 mm T0 or T1 only if the rack holds network gear and single-board computers and you want DeskPi's 200 mm shelves and 1U fan panel.

Is a 200 mm deep 10 inch rack deep enough?

For network gear, usually yes: 16 of the 21 rack-mount switches I checked are 200 mm deep or less. For storage, usually no: only 3 of 15 NAS units fit, all of them flash-only boxes. A UPS on the rack floor fits in 8 of 30 cases. If a 3.5-inch-drive NAS or a UPS is in the plan, buy the 260 mm rack.

Will a NAS fit in a 10 inch rack?

Most are narrow enough, but 11 of the 15 I checked are 222 to 257 mm deep: they overhang a 200 mm rack like the DeskPi T1 and fit a 260 mm one like the T2. Three were too wide for any 10-inch rack: the Synology DS1522+, the Asustor Flashstor 6 and the Jonsbo N2 case.
